The Sims 2 Celebration Stuff Review

Sims 2 Celebration stuff

I haven’t gotten my latest Sims 2 Stuff pack yet, The Sims 2 Celebration Stuff but here’s a review from someone who did:

The Sims 2 continues in its line of add-ons, this time focusing on one of the things Sims do best — party.

Celebration! Stuff contains a collection of furniture and clothing dedicated to weddings, birthdays or general partying. Bridal gowns, tuxedos and bridesmaids dresses come with the expansion, fulfilling the wishes of many a Sims fan.

Until now, players relied on user-made creations to get their party dress fix. Celebration! Stuff won’t compete with those user-made items, since it only has a handful of clothing patterns separated out into different colors to create the illusion of variety.

Players can create entire party-themed rooms with new furniture and decorations. We particularly like the infinite buffet table, votive candle lighting and statues. Celebraton! Stuff also lets players purchase wedding and birthday cakes to fit the occasion. Items generally range from classy wedding items to hokey fixtures (like neon heart lights) to the strange (a party themed BBQ grill?). This add-on compliments recent expansions, such as University, Nightlife and Seasons nicely, but it quickly becomes obvious that the banquet table, tailored specifically for formal parties like weddings, should have come in different designs to fit more occasions. There’s nothing for, say, a pet wedding — but maybe that’s something to look forward to in another add-on.

Celebration! Stuff offers a nice selection of new items, but paying $19.99 (a $10 difference from a full expansion pack) seems a little high for these party items, especially since the new clothing options don’t offer much variety. Still, no one ever said great parties should be cheap, and players will most likely forget the slightly inflated price tag when planning out that huge virtual wedding of their dreams.
