The Sims: In the Hands of Artists
Wow, this sounds like a really fun competition! Using the Sims as your inspiration for art:
Electronic Arts is putting money on the line and teaming up with three art and design schools to produce art competitions and exhibitions which celebrate the art of The Sims.
The Sims-inspired art will include media in the form of paintings, illustrations, sculptural work, fashion designs, cinematography and machinima, which are animated films using The Sims engine, which will be judged separately from the traditional art. The three schools participating are Parsons The New School for Design in New York, Academy of Art University in San Francisco and Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and $12,000 of prize money await each school’s winning entries.
EA hopes to open up a world of possibilities by putting The Sims in the hands of emerging artists. While the internet community has been doing an admirable job so far, it’ll be interesting to see what artistic feats will come out of this competition with $36,000 in total prizes up for grabs.
I can’t wait to see the winning entries.
