Strange Sims Gardeners Showing Up

This is one of the strangest glitches in the Sims 2 I’ve ever heard of.  Has this ever happened to you?

My game has run like a dream for over a year now. No major glitches, no big fiery explosions visible from space, no need to reinstall. I have all the EPs up to OFB, no stuff packs, and the game is properly patched.

I was playing the Ramirez lot (in Bluewater Village; attached to a custom ‘hood) last night–sent the daughter off to school and then the father went off to his store shortly afterwards. He spent the day there and then returned home–to find about five gardeners in his backyard, not gardening, but hanging around the swings.

When they didn’t leave/do something useful/start replicating like mad/etc. after a few sim-minutes, I clicked on one and selected "end services"; she left the lot with the gardening truck. The others didn’t leave, so I had to dismiss them (not "say goodbye") individually. In absence of the truck, they all walked off the lot. Once they were all gone, I had Checo call the gardener service again and rehire one without incident.

What I’m wondering is, was this just a freak glitch (possibly caused by my leaving the lot while the gardener was arriving), or something I need to be concerned about? And would it be just restricted to the lot (I’ve heard Maxis lots can be buggy, although I’ve never experienced it before–probably because I never play the Maxis ‘hoods)?

For the record, I have no hacks related to gardeners or gardening, am practically OCD about what I install–so no hacks could’ve sneaked in when I wasn’t looking, and a scan for hack conflicts comes up empty.

I think it’s something to do with the entry portal getting jammed. The one and only time I had a Gardener invasion, the pick-up was stuck next to a carpool so, for some reason, 35 Gardeners were spawned. They then proceeded to hang around doing bugger all until my Sim returned home to kick them off the lot.

Damn lazy gardeners.  hehe
